The Rat Pack Tribute Show / May 30
Tickets are $40.00
THE RAT PACK SHOW
Starring Henry Prego as Frank Sinatra, David Hayes as Sammy Davis Jr., and Joe Scalissi as Dean Martin.
The Rat Pack Show is a tribute like no other! This powerful 90 minute show captures the look and feel of the times, features the best Rat Pack impersonators, and co-mingles the comic banter, songs and entertainment in the same way the original cast performed it.
The Rat Pack captures some of the original show's signature routines. According to the Santa Barbara New Press, "Good actors can transport the audience into a bygone era and give them a glimpse of something that slipped away. These guys pulled it off. They flawlessly fed us the legendary lines. They delivered the Rat Pack for better and for worse. The cast showed us what it was like. When they strolled down the aisle in the second act and their voices filled the room before we could see them, I had a weird sensation. I wished at that sweet moment that I had been a booze-guzzling, polyester-coated lounge lizard in the 60's. That's a feeling that I could not have conjured up on my own in a thousand years."

Ron Sexsmith / May 31
Tickets are $40.00 - In a world of workaday singer-songwriters mired in vacuous self-regard, news of a new Ron Sexsmith record can only gladden the heart of those who care about deftly poetic, gently affecting songs that perfectly distil the pitfalls of being human. Especially when that record pairs him again with the producer who, for two decades, has framed his music in its most sympathetic surroundings.
In the late summer of 2011, Sexsmith bumped into Mitchell Froom in Los Angeles and gave him a CD of demos he’d been working on over the previous few months. His 2011 album ‘Long Player Late Bloomer’ had been a liberating pop-rock breakthrough for Ron, but when Froom – producer of Ron's first three albums and of 2006's ‘Time Being’ – began talking of string and woodwind arrangements, the singer was instantly intrigued.
The two set to work in November 2011 at Froom's Santa Monica studio, temporarily dubbed "Froom and Board" by Sexsmith. Assisting on the sessions were engineer David Boucher and a clutch of seasoned West Coast players that included drummer Pete Thomas, bassist Bob Glaub and pedal steel prince Greg Leisz. Strings were overdubbed afterwards using L.A.'s feted Calder Quartet.
The heart of ‘Forever Endeavour’, though, is a batch of songs sparked by an unexpected health scare in the summer of 2011, and it's these tracks that give the album its sorrowful gravitas. "In the middle of a tour last year, they detected a lump in my throat, and I had an MRI and the Ultrasound," says Ron. "And in the middle of recording this album, I had a CAT scan to see if everything was okay. So I had this period of a few months where I was freaking out about everything, and that probably explains why some of the songs are so philosophical. It was like, 'Either next year I'm going to be battling something or this is the last record I'm going to make'.
"'The spectre of death was sort of in my head and I was thinking about it all the time until I got the good results. Not that I was panicking, but time started to force itself into my thoughts because I wasn't sure how much of it I had left. There's a few songs that look back, but the big ones are obviously 'Deepens with Time' and 'The Morning Light'. For a period of maybe two months I'd be lying in bed wondering if I had this thing inside that was growing and that was going to get me. I felt like Johnny Mercer, writing all these 'Days Of Wine and Roses' type songs."
"With every album you do, it's just a new batch of songs and you try to find your way into it and find what the best surroundings would be for them. For people who've been following my career for all this time, I guess it will seem like a return to Other Songs or one of those sort of things. But I think I'm a better singer and I think I've gotten a little more accurate with the songwriting. There's a lot of stuff Mitchell used to help me with that I can do myself now.
"I really do think this is the record I've been trying to make my whole career, but for some reason either I wasn't singing good enough or didn't have the right songs. It really came together this time with the songs and the production and my voice, where I was singing the way I heard in my head. When I handed in the record, the label folks were talking about an 'angle' for the record, and I don't think in terms of 'angles'. I'm just really proud of it."

Letters From Wingfield Farm
by Dan Needles
starring Rod Beattie
directed by Douglas Beattie
The show that started the Wingfield series back in 1985! When a captain of industry trades his pin-stripe suit for overalls and retreats to a hundred acre farm, the residents of Persephone Township raise their eyebrows. Weekend farmers are a common enough sight, but this man seems to think he can make a living with a broken down racehorse and a single furrow plough.
Letter From Wingfield Farm is the story of one man’s attempt to embrace a less complicated world. In a series of letters to the editor of the Larkspur weekly newspaper, Walt Wingfield talks about the people and events of his first year as a man of the soil.
Rod Beattie stars as Walt and everyone else in Dan Needles’ one-man comedy, Letter From Wingfield Farm.
A kind of philosophical Will Rogers touch with a flair for the well told anecdote that is like the best of W.O. Mitchell”
n CKLN Newswave
Author and actor come out “Letter” perfect… breathtaking scope and depth… Beattie is astonishingly adept”
n The Toronto Star
“Dan Needles has much the same gift for gentle comedy as England’s James Herriot of All Creatures Great and Small glory… Beattie spins his yarns with tremendous charm”

Lunch At Allen's / November 30
Lunch At Allen’s is an extraordinary musical revue by internationally renowned artists, Murray McLauchlan, Cindy Church, Marc Jordan, and Ian Thomas who perform together as a band — the stage show is an intimate and humorous performance by some of Canada’s finest individual performers.
It all began as a regular get together at Allen’s Pub & restaurant on The Danforth in Toronto with Canadian music icon Murray McLauchlan and old friends Ian Thomas and Marc Jordan. After adding the voice of Cindy Church, a "lunch at Allen’s" turned into an outstanding band performing some of Canada’s (and the world’s) most enjoyed songs from each of these songwriters’ impressive catalogues.
Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas’ songs have been recorded by everyone from Rod Stewart to Bette Midler, and Diana Ross to Santana. Murray McLauchlan’s hits have covered Canadian airwaves from coast to coast. Cindy’s (the sweetest) voice and songs are well known on the folk festival circuit through her solo work and as a member of Quartette with Sylvia Tyson. Together, it seems as though they’ve been playing for years with an energy and freshness like they’ve just met.
The irreverence of friends who make exceptional music together during a magical Lunch At Allen’s is enjoyed by audience members while the group is on tour.
