Everything Fitz - The Fitzgeralds / February 25
Tickets: $25 adults, $21 seniors, $15 students (Member discounts available).
The Fitzgerald Family, featuring 3-time Canadian Grand Master Fiddle Champions- Julie, Tom and Kerry Fitzgerald- present an eclectic program, which blends traditional jigs and reels, bluegrass, jazz standards, Celtic and show-stopping Ottawa-Valley step dancing. Julie, Kerry and Tom provide intricate three-part fiddle harmonies as well as solo improvisations on fiddle and mandolin. Rounded by accompaniment from parents Pam and Paddy, plus guitarist Nate Douglas, Everything Fitz is an energetic, virtuosic, tradition-celebrating ensemble.
This family’s musical journey began early in life as they studied the unique style that evolved with Irish, Scottish and French immigrants. Over time, they have developed their art form to include various styles of fiddle music including Celtic, jazz, bluegrass, French-Canadian, and pop. They have also explored other forms of dance including tap and Irish. The siblings continue to push boundaries by fusing traditional and modern styles of fiddle and dance to create their own unique sound and style. Their creativity and passion for experimentation has led them to compose original tunes and arrangements.
They have thrilled and amazed audiences across North America, and this rare appearance on the Academy’s stage is not to be missed!

The calibre of musicianship is very high- the best according to many experts in the fiddle/dance competition world. I think together they are a beautiful blend of gorgeous fiddle music, and top rate, absolutely exhilarating dance routines.” Natalie MacMaster
“The precision and intricacy of their footwork was breathtaking and the complex choreography left many in the audience shaking their heads in amazement.”

OPENING ACT JUST ANNOUNCED
Adam Baldwin is a Dartmouth, Nova Scotia based musician and songwriter, perhaps best known as a member of Matt Mays' band since 2008. After a debut EP that offered a taste of his abilities, he has come into his own on his debut full-length album, No Telling When (Precisely Nineteen Eighty-Five), released in June 2016. The title is a concept, as Baldwin imagines New York City in 1985, while the city was still in transition from the downtrodden 1970s and at the height of yuppie madness. In No Telling When, Baldwin suggests we haven't come very far. That's a recurring theme on the record - broken dreams, political strife, and systemic failure. With his warm, sincere voice, Baldwin offers up insights that may lean dark and dreary, but are delivered with pop precision and propulsive energy. www.adambaldwin.ca

Tickets are $60.35. “HANK WILLIAMS – THE LONESOME TOUR” STARRING JASON PETTY
More Than A Tribute!
Direct from the historic stages of Nashville Tennessee comes “Hank Williams – The Lonesome Tour” starring Jason Petty in a show that will instantly transform you back to the early 1950’s when Hank Williams Senior was the biggest name in country music anywhere.
When Jason Petty first performed the role of Hank at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium in 1996, little did he imagine that some twenty years later he would still be portraying this legendary man in his own highly acclaimed show.
As his research on Hank progressed, Petty met and became friends with Williams’ friends, family members, musicians, and fellow Grand Ole Opry stars. They took him into their confidence and shared intimate details of this legend’s life and career. From the good times to the hard times, Jason listened and began to understand this man like no other. Now be brings that intimate story to life in this new one man tribute – “Hank Williams – The Lonesome Tour”.
Don Helms, Hank’s best friend and steel guitar player, very simply stated: “Jason’s singing of Williams’ classic songs is the best there’s ever been”. This feeling combined with his natural ability to tell the stories of Hank’s life and career with southern charm and down home humour has given this show rave reviews across North America.
Sit back and relax and let Jason Petty transform you back to another day and time… the days of Hank Williams. This will be an evening the audience will never forget.

Welcome to the New Year at the Academy Theatre, where we’re anticipating great things happening in 2017. Within a matter of months we’ll begin celebrating our 125th anniversary for this absolutely grand performance space! That’s right – we’re even older than Toronto’s esteemed Massey Hall. When construction of the Academy began in 1892, Canada was just 25 years old, meaning some of the workers were likely among our nation’s first-born since Confederation. With this being Canada’s 150th anniversary, we aim to make celebration a keyword in our programming.
Before we start those celebrations, there are many superb shows coming up providing a wide range of entertainment choices. We start the year with battling magicians and well-known Yuk Yuks comic Derek Seguin in January, followed by a Billy Joel/Elton John tribute show and Canadian traditional fiddle and step-dance champions The Fitzgeralds in February. In March we’ll have a hugely funny children’s magic show for March Break, plus the great Alan Doyle (formerly of Great Big Sea) and a Legends on Tour tribute. April is a busy month with a Hank Williams tribute, two nights of TIFF films (more on that later), Canada’s great comic Rick Mercer, the legendary Mickey Gilley, a Four Seasons tribute Oh What a Night, and the always popular John McDermott.
Our TIFF film series, a partnership with the Kawartha Art Gallery, was a resounding success in its inaugural year 2016. That was no doubt a factor in our being selected as one of 150 venues that will participate in “Canada on Screen” a special Canada 150th event on April 19 featuring some of the best ever Canadian films. Watch for more news about that occasion, as well as announcements of the films selected for our regular 2017 TIFF series. Remember – the TIFF nights are the second Tuesday of each month from April to September.
If you’ve never been to the Academy Theatre, this is the year to make your first visit. Located in the heart of historic downtown Lindsay, this classic performing arts venue is immensely enjoyed by performers and audience alike. Also consider becoming a member of the Academy Theatre Foundation, which for more than 50 years has kept this grand space going as a cultural hub and a key element in the fabulous people-friendly downtown neighbourhood.
We look forward to seeing you here in 2017!
For all those who purchased tickets to Battle of the Magicians taking place on September 16, please note that this event has been rescheduled for January 14, 2017 at 8pm. Sorry for any inconvenience.
